Global Wind Organization- Basic Technical Training

Career and Technical Education received a grant to bring Global Wind Organization (GWO) Basic Technical Training (BTT) to RCSJ!

The GWO Basic Technical Training course is the standard for technical work in wind turbine generators. RCSJ Career and Technical Education offers our clients the premiere BTT experience with state-of-the-art equipment and technical leadership. Our BTT equipment, designed in Denmark, consists of 3 stands combining the full scope of all GWO BTT modules.

The BTT curriculum will enable both onshore and offshore wind technicians to perform basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic tasks with the supervision of an experienced technician.  Not only will delegates gain awareness of the risks at hand while performing these tasks, but they will also learn to mitigate and control such hazards as well.

Thanks to the Green Jobs Academy at Rowan University and TD Bank, this valuable training is available through a GRANT-FUNDED opportunity.

Upon completion, delegates will obtain the following skills in each module including: Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Bolt Tightening and Installation.

Mechanical
Solve basic mechanical tasks responsibly by using safe working procedures and the correct PPE. Includes mechanical concepts and specialized wind energy tool usage and instruction.

Electrical
Solve basic electrical tasks responsibly by using safe working procedures and the correct PPE. Includes introductory electrical principles and electrical systems within the wind sector.

Hydraulic
Solve basic hydraulic tasks responsibly by using safe working procedures and the correct PPE. Includes basic operating principles of fluid power systems, interpretation of diagrams, and hydraulic systems within a wind turbine generator.

Bolt Tightening
Improve the safety and quality of bolt tightening using energy powered tools and accessories in the wind industry. This module covers both how to tighten bolts safely and correctly, and how to plan, document and review of bolt tightening tasks.  The module prepares participants for company specific bolt tightening training, through scenario-based training.

Installation
The aim of this BTT Installation Module is to enable the participants to work safely with basic installation tasks under supervision in a wind turbine environment.

Program Reviews
GWO Stars (1).png

  • “The mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, bolt tightening, and installation skills that we learned were helpful when applying for entry-level positions as a win turbine technician.”
  • “I learned things that were fairly new, but the faculty explained each section very well; now I am a little more knowledgeable and understanding. The course was pretty exciting to me.”
  • “Thank you for providing us with instructors who were excited and open to teaching us what we needed to know. They showed no frustration when many questions were being asked back to back.”
  • “The instructors were both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They both did a great job.”
  • “The faculty did a great job relating their experiences as trainees preparing to teach the course, having taken the GWO BTT and GWO BST themselves, to the material being covered. They were also very knowledgeable and helpful when I explored job opportunities as wind turbine technician.”
