This comprehensive four-session course guides aspiring and current entrepreneurs through the essential steps of launching and growing a business with confidence and purpose. Each session builds upon the last—beginning with developing a strong entrepreneurial mindset and ending with practical go-to-market strategies for real-world success.
Session 1: The Entrepreneurial Mindset: Vision, Mission, and Alignment
Success begins long before the first sale. This session focuses on developing the essential "business owner" mindset. We will address the crucial decision of pursuing a side business versus creating a venture intended to replace a 9-to-5 job, including best practices for both. The core component is mastering the creation of a powerful Business Mission (what we do today) and Vision (where we want to be tomorrow). Students will complete a personal alignment exercise to ensure their business goals match their life goals.
Session 2: Nailing Your Niche: Identifying the Ideal Customer and Core Value
A business cannot serve everyone. This class teaches students how to proactively identify and deeply understand their ideal customer (or "customer avatar"). We will cover market segmentation, understanding customer pain points, and validating a product or service idea based on real demand. The session concludes with drafting the core value proposition—the essential promise of what the business offers and how it solves the customer's problem better than the competition.
Session 3: Structuring Your Venture: Naming, Registration, and the Basic Business Plan
This session moves from concept to formal structure. Students will learn best practices for picking a memorable and legally viable business name. We will cover the essential steps and forms required for officially registering a business (e.g., sole proprietorship, LLC, S-Corp), understanding the role of an Employer Identification Number (EIN), and simple compliance basics. This class integrates the learnings from Sessions 1 and 2 into a formal, basic Business Plan structure outline.
Session 4: Go-to-Market Essentials: Launching, Promotion, and Next Steps
The final session focuses on the execution phase. Students will finalize their basic business plan draft and learn critical best practices for the first 90 days of operation. This class provides an essential introduction to promotion and marketing, covering the difference between branding, marketing, and sales. We will explore low-cost, high-impact introductory strategies for reaching the ideal customer identified in Session 2, ensuring a proactive and focused launch.
