What is the Placement Test?

Rowan College South Jersey requires all newly admitted students to take the College’s placement test, the Accuplacer, or provide proof of exemption.  The Accuplacer is designed to assess students’ current abilities in Reading, Essay/Writing and Math to determine course placement.

The placement test is taken after admission to RCSJ but prior to course registration.

What Subjects are on the Placement Test?

Students are tested in the areas of reading, essay, writing, quantitative reasoning algebra & statistics (QAS) advanced algebra & functions (AAF) and/or arithmetic.

What if a student has Vision, Hearing, or Mobility issues and needs to request accessibility accommodations?

Individuals with physical disabilities who may need accessibility accommodations should also contact the Department of Special Services (Special Needs) to request accessibility accommodations. Since the placement test is not timed, students who qualify for an extra time accommodation do not need to make special arrangements to take the placement test.

Please contact the appropriate Department of Special Services based on the campus in which the student applied, Cumberland or Gloucester.

Gloucester Campus – Department of Special Services: 856-415-2265; 856-415-2247

May I be Exempt from Taking the Placement Test?
