The Division of Nursing and Health Professions offers students the opportunity to explore careers in nursing, diagnostic medical sonography and nuclear medicine technology. Licensed and certified allied health personnel who graduate from an accredited post-secondary program have the option to earn a Health Sciences degree. 

Health care providers across the region rely on Rowan College to prepare exemplary health care practitioners. In response to these expectations, the Division combines the College's rich heritage of value with a student-centered learning environment.   • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (Certificate of Achievement)*

    The CCMA Program at RCSJ provides the requisite training for entry-level postsecondary medical assistant students through classroom, laboratory and supervised clinical instruction and practice. CCMA program graduates receive a Certificate of Achievement upon completion of all program components. Students in good academic standing are eligible to take the national credentialing exam at the completion of all program requirements.

  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography

    ​​The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) curriculum provides supportive courses in the liberal arts in addition to core courses and clinical experience in DMS. The 22-month curriculum includes four semesters and three summer sessions. Beginning with the first summer session, students enter clinical rotations. Although most hours are spent in a hospital setting, students also attend lectures on campus. DMS students must complete 1,160 hours of clinical instruction, which are scheduled throughout the program in collaboration with clinical affiliates. Clinical hours occur during all College sessions.

    The Exercise Science program provides students with a solid foundation of learning experiences, enabling them to transfer to four-year universities to pursue careers in health/medical promotion and fitness management.

    The Health Science option under the A.S. in Biological Science is designed to accommodate those students wishing to pursue a pathway in healthcare such as Physical Therapy, Occupation Therapy, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Chiropractic, Medical Lab Technician and a variety of healthcare professions.

    ​This program of study is designed to introduce and enhance career opportunities in various Allied Health disciplines. There are two distinct pathways for students attempting to earn this Health Science degree; introductory to career field and career advancement for those holding a current Allied Health certificate for their discipline.

    This program of study is designed to prepare students for the fundamental curriculum required for application to a Respiratory Therapy Program.

  • Nuclear Medicine Technology

    ​Nuclear Medicine is the use of radioactive materials and sophisticated electronic scanning equipment to diagnose and treat certain suspected or known disorders of the human body. The three most common procedures are organ imaging, laboratory analysis and therapeutic administration.

    This program combines general education with nursing courses to prepare students for entry-level nursing practice. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) and to apply to a Board of Nursing for licensure as a Registered Nurse. The Nursing program is approved by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and accredited by ACEN.

    The program combines general education with nursing courses to prepare currently Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) for entry-level Registered Nursing (RN) practice. Upon successful completion of the nursing program, students are eligible to apply for state licensure and take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN). The nursing program is approved by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

    This program is designed for those students wishing to pursue a field of study leading to becoming a Registered Dietitian or nutrition professional. It is designed to meet the transfer requirements for students leading to a BS-Dietetics concentration or a BS Nutrition degree at a 4-year College or University.

  • Physical Therapy Assistant

    A Physical Therapist Assistant, or PTA, is a clinician who provides, for patients with impairments from illness or injury, treatment interventions and components of therapeutic measurement under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

  • Practical Nursing (LPN) (Certificate)*

    The Academic Certificate program in Practical Nursing is designed for students who plan to become Licensed Practical Nurses. This program has selective admission criteria. Individuals who are at college level and who are eligible to take English 101, and Anatomy and Physiology I, may consider this Practical Nursing program. The Practical Nursing Program can be completed in one calendar year. Graduates are awarded on Academic Certificate in Practical Nursing.

  • Radiography

    This program combines courses in general education and radiography with supervised clinical experience in area hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies Examination in Radiography and become nationally certified and also licensed by the State of New Jersey.
