As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Glenn Bloom does not have the option of performing his job from the safety of his Glendora home. Instead, he shows up for patients right on schedule – offering his downtime to act as support for other areas of the hospital during the pandemic and volunteering to provide coworkers with the assistance required to properly don and doff PPE.

Job Title: Bilingual Science Teacher
Elizabeth Espinosa had been her students' new teacher for little more than a month before having to transition to online learning due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Afraid she would lose the relationships she'd started building with them, Elizabeth kept the conversations going by creating daily themes such as #MindsetMonday, #TipTuesday, #WackyWednesday, #ThrowbackThursday and #FunFriday. Each day the Vineland resident sends students an image or video based on the daily theme, in addition to implementing "office hours" via Zoom so students can ask questions about assignments and talk with their classmates. It's important to Elizabeth that her students know she believes in them, and is there to cheer them on.

Job Title: Chief of Police, Emergency Management Coordinator
​​​​Police Chief James DeHart is diligent in his efforts to keep the community safe and informed as he leads the men and women of the Monroe Township Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. To help “Flatten the Curve,” officers spend extra time patrolling to ensure that individuals are following the Governor’s Executive and Administrative Orders. Updates are posted daily on the township’s website and other social media platforms, providing accurate information and resources to residents and businesses.

Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Robert Hooks works on the front lines of COVID-19 epidemic, administering diagnostic testing on very sick patients. The Franklinville resident credits his training at RCSJ for preparing him to stand up to the rigors of this unprecedented pandemic.

RCSJ grad and current Rutgers University student, Holly Rothfuss, volunteers her time with the Dream Center to deliver food, clothing and household, baby and hygiene items to struggling South Jersey families. Though she should be preparing to don a cap and gown for her long-awaited Rutgers graduation, instead the Pitman resident is serving her community in gloves and a mask..

Translating the tactile subject of art into a virtual format is a challenge under any circumstances; doing it instantaneously and while accounting for students’ limited access to supplies and increasing struggles with social isolation is another matter altogether. Sarah rose to that daun​ting task from her Magnolia home. She joins her K-6th graders via video every day, encouraging them to explore their emotions through art projects customized to interests, skills and the supplies they have at home – along with a taste of normalcy and the trademark enthusiasm to which her students are accustomed.

Taryn Rossetti, a two-time graduate of RCSJ, knows that her patients struggle with far more than just the physical symptoms of ill health. The Greenwich resident has made it her mission as a nurse to not only support, care and advocate for patients who must remain isolated due to COVID-19, but also to share a little love and compassion with those who are desperately missing family members or friends.

Marcy Hutchinson's career as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer doesn’t allow for the recommended 6-foot distance between her and the hospital’s young patients. Even during these stressful times, the Cherry Hill resident is going above and beyond the call of duty, volunteering her time to act as support for other areas of the hospital for the duration of this pandemic, and contributing to efforts to assemble and distribute COVID-19 testing kits.

Amanda Chandler is focused on providing a personal connection and sense of normalcy to her 5th grade students, many of whom are struggling to deal with sudden isolation. In addition to lessons taught from her West Deptford home, this teacher invites students to peek inside her kitchen during a cookie baking video chat, see her plant collections during read aloud sessions, explore the subject of personal narrative writing while on a walk with her dog and see how she uses her calligraphy to help cope with stress during the pandemic.

The hospital’s young patients are not the only one’s relying on Shauna Dougherty to forego the safety of social distancing, her fellow Diagnostic Medical Sonographers rely on her to ensure their department is stocked with the supplies required to function properly in a time when certain supplies can be hard to come by. Whenever the demands of her official duties allow, Shauna has committed to act as support for other areas of the hospital for the duration of this pandemic.

He has also repurposed Matlack Marketing, the small business Harry runs from his Magnolia home, to focus on sourcing PPE and sanitizer for local businesses and healthcare facilities struggling to obtain these necessities.

Kelly Stanton is competitive, whether it is on the tennis court or on the hospital floor, determined to outplay athletic opponents and to keep her patients safe. The 2-time, undefeated National Champion Roadrunner now faces her most threatening opponent — COVID 19. As a nurse at Virtua Voorhees Hospital, the Williamstown resident sees firsthand the anxiety and anguish this pandemic has caused to those for whom she cares and works alongside.

Nick Schmidt is passionate about protecting his community, whether it’s through his daily patrol functions, his efforts as part of the Professional Standards Bureau handling training and community policing events, or his work as a volunteer firefighter with the Washington Twp. Fire Department. On the rare occasions this Washington Twp. resident has a free moment, he can be found helping to disinfect the police station to keep his fellow officers safe.

As a Respiratory Therapist, Timothy Rohlfing knows first-hand how devastating the effects of the coronavirus can be. This Mickleton resident forgoes the safety of social distancing each day to work directly with some of the hospital's sickest patients in the ICU, operating ventilators, administering breathing treatments and working to get COVID-19 patients back to their families.

As a high school history teacher and the department chair, David Stanton has been challenged during the school’s pandemic closing with keeping the lines of communication open between his students and coworkers. As he teaches from home, David collaborates with other Kingsway history educators to provide engaging virtual instruction through a combination of reading, videos, recorded lessons, student presentations, and peer interaction via Google Meets. He explains to his students that all of us are learning during this unusual time—a time that has become one for the history books.

Kelly Dornewass’s responsibilities as a Registered Nurse in Virtua’s NICU do not end with caring for the hospital’s most fragile, young patients – she also must provide support for the families of sick newborns and premature infants. With the rise of COVID-19, this Hammonton resident is tasked with determining visitation guidelines for her at-risk patients and working to help sick parents stay connected to their baby while safely apart.
