Radiography, A.A.S. (Cumberland)

 

​​Program Description

Radiographers are health care​ professionals who use radiation (x-rays) to create medical images of the body. Other names used for the profession are: Radiologic Technologist or X-Ray Technologist. The career combines the use of modern medical equipment with patient care interaction. Radiographers are valued members of the health care team and provide information to physicians so that patients' illnesses can be diagnosed, and treatment initiated.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

This program combines courses in general education and radiography with supervised clinical experience in area hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Examination in Radiography and become nationally certified and to apply for licensing by the State of New Jersey. 

​Applying to the Program 

The Radiography Program is a ​Selective Admissions Program​. Students apply to the RCSJ, Cumberland Campus and also apply to be considered for admission to the Radiography Program by completing and submitting a Radiography Program Admission Packet.

Accreditation Information​ ​​

​The program is approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and the Department of Environmental Protection/Bureau of Radiation Protection for the State of New Jersey.         

The Rowan College of South Jersey (formerly known as Cumberland County College) Radiography Program was established in 1986 and accredited in September 1988. The program consists of a two-year full-time course beginning in the first week of September each year.

To provide competent, entry-level technologists through a high-quality, career-oriented education in Radiography.                        

Goal 1: Students will be competent when performing radiographic procedures.​

Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will provide effective patient care.
2. Students will accurately position patients for a variety of exams.​

Goal 2: Students will demonstrate effective communication.

Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will display an understanding of the principles of effective communication in the academic setting.

Program Effectiveness Data​

Credentialing Examination: The number of students who pass, on the first attempt, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination, or an unrestricted state licensing examination, compared with the number of graduates who take the examination within six months of graduation. The five-year average benchmark established by the JRCERT is 75%.
