Sweet Success for RCSJ Veterans’ Cookie Sale

12/19/2019

Members of Rowan College of South Jersey's (RCSJ) Student Veterans of America (SVA) organization held their first cookie sale on Thursday, Dec. 5 — and it was a sweet success, selling out in the first hour.

With 53 festive bags loaded on a cart, SVA members took their cookie sale on the road raising $64, which will be used towards the upcoming 2020 National Conference in Los Angeles, California in January. SVA cookie sellers included all branches of the armed forces under the direction of SVA President Bryan Baldwin, Vice President Laison Dunnavant and Secretary Danielle Emmons.

“For our first cookie sale event, it was extremely successful. We were pleasantly surprised to see how fast the cookies sold out," said SVA Treasurer Laura Easter, a psychology major at RCSJ. “We will definitely be planning to expand next year and raise more."

All RCSJ current, prospective or alumni students who have honorably served in the military (or are family members of someone who has or is still serving) are welcome to join SVA. Proceeds from the organization's fundraisers are earmarked for the National Conference and to help fund the Veterans Lounge, a private retreat on campus where veterans can go to relax and study.
