AmeriCorps, part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, provides volunteer opportunities for individuals who are at least "55 years young." The organization matches volunteers' interests and talents to a rich array of service options, also addressing the surrounding community's needs. AmeriCorps welcomes individuals from all socioeconomic, educational and professional backgrounds. Volunteers serve on a regular basis in a number of community settings.
Program Overview
AmeriCorps membership is free, in which volunteers also receive such perks as informational newsletters and take part in annual recognition luncheons. Helpers serve an average of three or four hours per week via placements at local nonprofit agencies. Volunteers report their hours to the AmeriCorps office each month. In addition, AmeriCorps members are covered by "On Duty" accident and liability insurance.
