Administrative Dental Assistant

​​​​​​This course equips students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to manage the business aspects of a dental practice. They will learn communication skills, accounting procedures, insurance claims, dental terminology, patient scheduling, inventory management, and dental procedures and coding. Upon completion, students can obtain their Certified Dental Office Assistant Certification.

After finishing the course, students will be ready to work as administrative dental assistants in dental practices. They will also have the option to pursue a clinical career in dentistry as expanded functions dental assistants, dental hygienists, or dentists. Additionally, students will be prepared to take the Certified Dental Office Assistant (CDOA) exam, showcasing their expertise and skills as successful Certified Dental Office Assistants.

Course Policies
  • A minimum grade of 75% is required to pass.
  • Tests and quizzes will not be retaken if failed. 
  • If you are absent for a test/quiz/evaluation/assignment, you may complete the missed work the next day you come to class, but only if it is a documented absence; otherwise, you are given a zero. 
  • You are required to attend all lecture sessions.
  • If you must be absent, you must notify the faculty before the start of class. 
  • Any student who misses more than 2 scheduled classes due to undocumented absences will not be entitled to tutoring.
  • You are responsible for any additional policies noted in the Rowan College of South Jersey Student Handbook.
  • You are expected to always behave professionally. Cheating and/or plagiarism will not be tolerated and may be subject to dismissal from the course.
  • You must assume the responsibility for maintaining physical standards as a professional. 
  • You will be given breaks during each lecture so please do not get up and leave class while the instructor is teaching, as this is distracting to those around you. 
  • Please do not chat in class when others are speaking. If your behavior is disruptive and/or distracting, you will be asked to leave.
