Meet Anthony
RCSJ graduate and future film director, Anthony Hairston, is focused on making the most of his experience at NYU – his dream school, where he transferred in September 2020 to study film production. He brough with him the same enthusiasm, drive and willingness to grasp every opportunity which he displayed during his time at RCSJ, where he was the recipient of four Rowan College Foundation scholarships.
“As a student at RCSJ, Anthony kept busy serving as the vice president of scholarships for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, working as an office assistant in the College’s Business Studies division and participating in the Minority Initiative on Leadership and Excellence program. He was one of four students selected to take place in a summer mentorship program with Emmy-award winning filmmaker and producer Ray Mamrak as part of the College’s Cooperative Education program—an experience that he says taught him the “ins and outs of what to do behind a camera, and that will lead to more opportunities in my field.”
An advocate for personal growth, Anthony hopes to use his camera to inspire and encourage other students to put effort into their education and to follow their dreams. “Do what you love. That is where you will excel the most.”
“My internship at RCSJ taught me what I need to know for my future. It is an experience that will lead to more opportunities in my field. I’ve shot a commercial, done film comparisons, learned terminology, been on legit production sets and got the hands-on experience and feel for it.”
He now looks to be an inspiration to others who are seeking the best path towards a degree, just as his brother was to him. His advice to future students is simple and straightforward: “If you’re considering RCSJ, just enroll. You’ll get a great education from great professors – without the high price.”
